Cheyenne, Wyoming to San Diego, California—June, 2006

This trip was to attend the 50 year Rendezvous for LazyDaze and the NECC Conference in San Diego. I didn’t write about it very much at the time so the entries are short and not very complete.

Saturday, June 17, 2006--We left Ackerman about 9:00 am and drove to Dennis’s where we took him to lunch in Oxford and left Frodo with him and Otto.  Afterwards we drove on to Jonesboro, Arkansas and spent the night at the WalMart parking lot.  We had supper at Cracker Barrel to start our trip.  Tom saw a t-shirt with “Jonesboro--Fat City” and we could believe it!  It was raining off and on most of the afternoon and evening, but we slept without the air conditioning, and it wasn’t too bad.

Sunday, June 18, 2006--We went to sleep early yesterday, so we woke up early and played on the Internet for a hour or so before continuing.  We had lunch and a nap at the Walmart in

 Monday, June 19, 2006--

Tuesday, June 20, 2006--We drove from Dodge City, KS, to Pueblo, CO.

Wednesday, June 21, 2006--We drove from Pueblo to Rocky Mountain National Park and spent the night at the Glacier Basin campground.

Thursday, June 22, 2006--We spent the night in the Rocky Mountain National Park.

Friday, June 23, 2006--When we opened the door to the RV, there were two elk standing right in front of us.  Tom and I tried to walk from our campground to Bear Lake.  We had assumed that it was downhill and thought we’d heard two miles.  It turned out to be five miles uphill.  We walked about three miles and took a shuttle.  We had only enough time to walk around the lake before taking a shuttle down and leaving camp.  We went to Estis Park for several hours, and then drove on.  I bought a kaliescope and a mosaic clay bison.  We met the rest of th South Central Lazy Daze group at Loveland, CO. Louis and Louise Reno from Jackson were there so we knew one couple.

 Saturday, June 24, 2006

Sunday, June 25, 2006--Tom and I went to St. Mark’s for the 10:30 service.

Monday, June 26, 2006--I went to a talk by Steve Newton about how the factory saw things.  Steve is the owner and manager of LazyDaze.  On the way over to the place for the talk I met Steve and we walked over together.  I was amazed that he remember us--even remembering that Tom had been reluctent to buy an RV, was a lawyer, and liked history.  The sound system was awful, and I couldn’t hear much.  Tom, Louis, and I joined about 47 others for a tour of the UP steamyard.

Friday, June 30, 2006--We toured Salt Lake City.   We ate lunch at Lamb’s Grill.  We went to the History Museum and then to Temple Square tour.  We then took a tour of Brigham Young’s Beehive house.  We returned to the campground, did our laundry, and spent some time talking with Barbie and John from Florida.

I didn’t write about it at the time, but we then went on to San Diego for a NECC Conference.  While there we took a sailboat ride (regatta) that we thoroughly enjoyed.
